G-6
The Permit Area is situated near the extreme northern extent of the Denver Basin aquifer system, which
underlies an area of about 7,000 square miles that extends roughly from Greeley south to near Colorado
Springs.
The Denver Basin aquifer system is not well connected to other major aquifers in the area, and the
surficial aquifer along the South Platte River Valley is the only other major aquifer near the Denver
Basin.
Shallow, discontinuous surficial aquifers overlie parts of the Denver Basin aquifer system, primarily
along small streams that are tributary (from the south) to the South Platte River. The Denver Basin
aquifer system consists of four discrete aquifers that are present in five geologic formations. The Permit
Area is located along the border of the Arapahoe and Laramie Fox Hills aquifer units.
As shown in Table G-2: Groundwater Wells Within 200 Ft. of Permit Area, a total of three (3)
registered groundwater wells have been identified as being present within the Permit Area (and
extending 200-ft. exterior therefrom), as follows. The location of each is also shown on Figure G-1:
Surface and Groundwater Features.
TABLE G-2
GROUNDWATER WELLS WITHIN 200 FT.OF PERMIT AREA
Total
Rea.No. Location Owner Death Usage
75234 SW SW Sec.07 Guttersen Ranches LLC 32 ft. Stockwatering
Stockwatering Well(Permit No.75234)located in the SWl/4 of the SW1/4 of Section 7:T2N:R632Z
This well is situated at a location 300 ft. north of the south line and 600 ft. east of the west line of
Section 7,which would place it to the east of Ennis Draw;and, proximal to one of the above-discussed
surface water expression features. A Statement of Beneficial Use was located; however, no Well
Construction and Test Report is available on the Office of State Engineer website. While its presence
is duly noted,no lithologic data is readily available.
Keenesburg No. 2 Mine_112 Reclamation Operation—November 22, 2019
