This water is
process related water, but is also used as fire water. Henderson personnel noticed that water was seeping
to the surface by Hydrant 7 (Image #1), flowing under Reclaim #1 conveyor and pooling on the surface
there at a very slow rate; approximately one to two gallons per minute (Image#2). Henderson Engineering
investigated the source of the water by isolating the fire water system between hydrants 6 and 7(see Image
#3 below). Closing these valves stopped the water pooling confirming that the firewater line between
hydrants 6 and 7 was leaking. At this time the Environmental Department was notified.
The following paragraphs correspond to the elements of the follow-up written notice set forth in Rule 8.2.3,
paragraphs (a) through (e), of the DRMS Rules and Regulations:
(a) After discovering the issue, Henderson employees isolated the section of the fire water line
to stop any additional release.
(b) The water released did not adversely impact human health, property or the environment.
This is based on the known chemistry of the water and the location of the event. The water
pooled at the location of the leak.
(c) The contact person for this event is:
Aaron Hilshorst
19302 County Road 3
Parshall, CO 80468
Phone: 720-942-3420
(d) No monitoring or analyses were performed for this situation since the water from the fire
water pipeline was not released off-site and did not impact any natural water body.
