NEWMONT
GOLDCORR
a. The first bullet states, "The grading changes were minor and presented in the
Record of Construction Drawings"? Please indicate which ROC drawings and
describe how these minor grading changes are shown in these drawings.
The minor grading changes where done in the field to best fit the actual field
conditions. These changes didn't alter the intent of the design, which is to
have solution drain towards the PSSA. As with previous submittals, these
changes were not identified on any record of construction drawings.
b. The second bullet indicates the use of extrusion welding was approved in addition
to the IFC drawing requirement to use fusion welds to connect phased
geomembrane panels. Who approved this change and what was the rationale for
accepting this change?
The certifying engineer approved extrusion welding the Phase 2
geomembrane liner to the Phase 1 geomembrane as this type of connection
has been allowed to connect the phased panels throughout the VLF 2
construction. This has been allowed when field conditions are not optimal
to complete a fusion weld due to space or curvature constraints.
Additionally, extrusion welding is an acceptable liner connection method in
the technical specifications outlined in Section 2.2 AA:
"Approved field seaming processes are hot shoe double fusion
welding and extrusion welding, when approved by CERTIFYING
ENGINEER. Use double fusion welding as primary method of
seaming adjacent geld panels."
Tables:
3. Table 4 — Fill Temperature Monitoring Summary.Average fill temperature was recorded
at 32°F on 4123119 at 7:00. Within 3.6 of the Earthworks Technical Specifications, "Frozen"
is defined as a mean temperature of thirty-two degrees Fahrenheit(32`F) or less. Please
address why SF and SLF placement occurred when rill material was frozen.
Fill temperatures on the specified date showing 32°F was reported as whole numbers.
Table 4, enclosed, has been revised with precise fill temperature.
4. Table 8 — CQA Earthworks Testing Summary — Drain Cover Fill: Sample Numbers
NFDCF-7-R, NFDCF-8-R, and NFDCF-9-R have a Plastic Index greater than 5, therefore
are not Non Plastic. Within 2.1 of the Earthworks Technical Specifications, the Plasticity
Index for Drain Cover Fill is 0. The Record of Construction Report states, within Section
3.2.4 Drain Cover Fill, that a total of seven DCF samples were tested with passing results.
Additionally, as noted in Table 8, Sample Numbers NFDCF-7-R, NFDCF-8-R, and
NFDCF-9-R were approved by the Engineer of Record. Within Appendix H.4-Drain Cover
Fill Laboratory Test Results, the lab results show these three samples had a Plastic Index
