A two man drilling crew using a
track mounted rotary drilling machine completed all the work tasks. This included
drilling exploratory holes, casing the holes with steel pipe, installing thermocouples at
designated locations, and backfilling/abandonment of some holes not left as monitoring
locations. work progressed smoothly and there were no major problems. Geologists B.
Stover and J. Nelson of DMG were on site to log the borings and supervise installation
of thermocouples, as well as assemble data and survey in drill hole locations. By July 22,
the drilling was completed, and the final task of Sealing subsidence craters and cracks
began.
Unfortunately, the landowner, who is currently embroiled in several other unrelated
conflicts with the Title IV Section of DMG, decided to create a conflict/situation with
DMG over a perceived miner discrepancy in the consent documents for the Pioneer
Canon Project. After having given verbal (and in-fact written) consent to perform the
backfilling task on July 23, the landowner rescinded that consent on July 26, requested
that all work be suspended, and that DMG leave the property.
The Contract was thus concluded before it was completed, and the contractor released.
Complete reclamation of haul roads and access pathways was not completed, nor were
all the subsidence craters filled and sealed. This work will have to be done under a
separate bid at a later date if the consent issues are resolved with the landowner. For a
detailed account of the landowner problem, please refer to the project files.
Future Maintenan-ce
Final reclamation of haul roads and subsidence craters was not completed due to the
request for stoppage of the project by the landowner. No temperature readings or work
plan for monitoring the here hales and developing more data on the fire is possible at
this time due to the uncooperative nature of the landowner. Until consent is re-
established no further work on this coal fire project is passible.
,;oo?roJect Manager
0.,- 15` 93
Date
. .................................. .
