i <br /> Pioneer Canon Phase 1 <br /> Project Close Out Report <br /> OSM Number 08198 <br /> 12th Construction Grant <br /> January, 1994 <br /> It PROJECT OVERVIEW <br /> The Pioneer Canon Phase 1 Project involved drilling and investigation of an active coal fire <br /> located in the South Field area of the Canon City Coal Field, Fremont County, Colorado. <br /> The fire is presently burning in the Pioneer Canon-AKA-Double Dick mine located in the <br /> SEI/4 Sec.24, T.20 S., R.70 W.(Sec attached maps for site location). <br /> The project included drilling exploratory holes to determine subsurface overburden and <br /> mine conditions, identify extent and direction of movement of the fire,and develop data and <br /> an understanding of the fire so that a containment or extinguishment approach could be <br /> designed for Phase 11. Temperature monitoring instruments were also installed to monitor <br /> fire behavior and evaluate future planned remediation efforts.
