North River Gravel Pit Weldon Construction
• Mule Deer (Concentration Area, Summer Range, Resident Population Area, Severe Winter
Range, Winter Concentration Area, Winter Range, Overall Range)
• White-tailed Prairie Dog (Overall Range)
• Peregrine Falcon Active Nest Site (approx. 2 miles from Project Area)
• Osprey Active Nest Sites (approx. 0.32 mile and 4.25 miles from Project Area)
Refer to Appendix A for Exhibit H CPW wildlife habitat maps and seasonal uses of the area.
9.4. Effects to Wildlife
Mining will remove existing desert vegetation, which will reduce potential foraging and cover for
these species. This will likely reduce the residence time for a number of species within the mining
areas. Many of the resident species may continue to utilize surrounding habitats given the small
area of the mine, and intermittent mining activities planned. Noise, dust and other habitat
detractants are not expected to be very significant given the mine will only be used intermittently.
After reclamation, most wildlife species will be able to continue to utilize this area; the longest-term
potential habitat detractor will be persistence by noxious weeds.
22
