This inspection was scheduled in response to
Coors Energy Company's application of a partial phase II bond release request, SL 10. Mr. Tom Medlin of the
Office of Surface Mining and Enforcement accompanied the inspection as part of the Federal oversight program.
Danny Kipp and Ben Moline of Coors Energy Company met the inspectors at the Keenesburg office and
represented the operator.
Certified letters regarding the time and location of the inspection were sent to the landowners. No landowners
contacted the Division regarding the inspection or arrived at the mine site to accompany the inspection.
The weather was clear, warm and dry.
FISH and WILDLIFE—Rule 4.18:
While we were inspecting parcel 31,three pronghorn approached us, and came within 25 feet of us. They
eventually lost interest in us and wandered off.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS -Rule 4.15,Rule 3:
CEC has applied for Phase II bond release on 29.34 acres in parcels 31,32,and 33. Parcel 31 was seeded
in 2009,Parcels 32 and 33 were seeded in 2015. The vegetative cover on all three parcels was very good. The
vegetative communities were dominated by warm season grasses. Few forbs were encountered this late in the
growing season. Although the spring started out with ample moisture,Danny said it had been quite dry during the
latter part of the summer.
Parcel 31 vegetation visually contained a little more cheatgrass than the other two parcel. This increase frequency
of cheatgrass was not a cause for concern. The established desirable species were healthy and well established.
The cheatgrass did not represent a large component of the reestablished vegetative community. Parcel 31
vegetation has also recovered nicely from years of extended drought.
REVEGETATION—Rule 4.15
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 2
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 0
Page 2 of 5
