to handle stormwater runoff from only the dump slope area. The top surface of the dump will
drain west towards the processing area sump. Final dump reclamation will only occur at the end
of mining. Final reclaimed dump slopes will feature catch ditches to collect surface flows,
minimize incision, and funnel flows into the dump slope sump. All water collected in the dump
slope sump will penetrate the dry porous surface within 72 hours.
2. Mining Timetable
Projected average annual production for the Bradford Mesa Quarry is 1,000,000 tons per year. It
is currently estimated that 30-60 million tons of basalt are available to be mined within the
quarry. Mining will be completed based on market conditions;therefore, with an average
estimate of 45 million tons of basalt available mined at a rate of 1,000,000 tons per year, mining
of the Bradford Mesa resource will occur over 45 years and will be projected to be completed by
2065 with final reclamation to be completed by 2066.
The mining schedule is planned to minimize disturbance by reclaiming mined-out areas as new
mining phases become active.Note: If large contracts are awarded to the site, production could
increase and reduce the life of the pit. On the other hand, if contracts are less than anticipated,
the life of the pit could be extended.
3. Mine Facilities and Operation
It is extremely unlikely that any toxic or acid-producing materials will be encountered during the
mining operation as the site was historically rangeland with minor more riparian areas near the
Bradford Reservoir. However, in the event that such materials are encountered, they will be
covered with subsoil and topsoil from onsite stockpiles to the same depths outlined in the
reclamation plan and no more mining will occur in the area.
An approximately 30 acre processing area will be located in the central extent of the mesa top to
service the two main mining trends. Aggregate processing equipment is portable and the
processing area may move and follow active mining throughout the site. Portable mining
equipment such as loaders, dozers, trucks and excavators will be serviced on an as-needed basis
onsite. Upon reclamation, all portable equipment will be removed from the site. A summary of
equipment and related tanks that may exist on site at any given time is listed below.
Bradford Mesa Quarry X.-Cg
August 2019 D-8
