INTRODUCTION
Savage and Savage was contracted by the Loveland Ready Mix Concrete to conduct an
avian nest survey of the Knox Project site in La Porte, Colorado. This survey was
conducted prior to project commencement in order to ascertain the location and
occupancy of any migratory bird nests on-site. The scope of the survey was expanded to
include any potential adjacent nest or roost areas for migratory birds, particularly eagles,
raptors, owls, or other protected avian species.
The Knox project site is located north of Larimer County Road 54G east of Overland
Trail and west of the U.S. Highway 287 bypass. The site is located within the SW'/4 of
Section 28, Township 8 North, Range 69 West of the Sixth Prime Meridian in Larimer
County, Colorado. The latitude of the center of the proposed project site is 40.629594'
north and the longitude is -105.128821' west (Figure 1). Land uses within and adjacent
to the proposed project include livestock production, aggregate extraction, agriculture,
commercial businesses, and residences.
Michael and Edith Savage of Savage and Savage conducted the vehicular and pedestrian
survey on April 5, 2019.
SITE CHARACTERISTICS
Topography and Geomorphic Features
The proposed project site is located adjacent to and within the primary alluvial terrace of
the Cache la Poudre River drainage. The overall topography of the project site is
predominantly flat, though gently sloping to the east. Topography of the project site has
been manipulated through construction of an irrigation canal (Little Cache la Poudre
Ditch) and irrigation laterals to facilitate the current land use of livestock pasture.
Loveland Ready Mix Concrete Page 2
2019 Knox Project Avian Nest Survey
