Ellicott Sand & Gravel - Schubert Ranch Gravel Resource Wildlife Questioner (cont)
4. ( cont) Mine entrance 38d48'31.7", -104d21'01.6". Turn at HWY 94 - 38d50'19.3",
-104d21'02.6". Attached is a map showing the route and GPS waypoints for the turns listed
above.
13. (cont)
The soil and overburden stripped will be piled along the outside perimeter of the mine and
parallel to the creek or will be used to reclaim areas previously mined. The site has from 0
to 6 inches of dirt liked sandy growth medium that will be saved. Then 55 to 70 feet of
sandy gravel will be mined. As mining progresses across a mining areas, reclamation will
follow closely on the areas where mining is done or are no longer needed for mining.
Precautions will be taken to preserve the natural drainage across the property as much as
possible. Black Squirrel Creek is an ephemeral drainage in this reach, but if the mining area
captures runoff during a heavy storm event the areas breached will be rebuilt to preserve
the character of the flow channel. The plan is to leave the excavated areas as dry non lake
areas so no mining will take place within 2 feet of the groundwater table and no groundwater
will be exposed by mining.
Reclamation will involve sloping the exterior of the mined area 3h to Iv from the surface to
the bottom of the mined area and spreading the saved soil and overburden an average of 6
inches deep to serve as seed bed. The resoiled area will be seeded with the seed mix shown
in the provided seeding guide prepared by Mr. Greg Langer of the local NRCS office. Once
an area is seeded it will be monitored for up to 5 years and remedial work will be done until
it is deemed acceptable by the DRMS.
Attached is a copy of the current requirements needed in the report from the Mined Land -
Rules and Regulations. Any of the information you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
