Mr. Peter Hays, DRMS
August 6,2019
19302 County Road 3
Parshall, CO 80468
Phone: 720-942-3420
(d) No monitoring or analyses were performed for this situation since the water from the ECO
was not released off-site and did not impact any natural water body.
(e) Following the return of flow to the TDL, hand-digging commenced around the pipe joint
on the ECO to investigate the leak. It was determined that a previously installed, rubber-
baked band clamp had failed allowing water to leak from the pipe joint. The consensus of
Henderson's Engineering Dept. was that installing another band clamp would not be
sufficient prevent further leaks and so the decision was made to pour a concrete block
around the pipe joint. Forms for the concrete pour were installed that same afternoon
and concrete was poured around the pipe joint on August 5, 2019. This corrective
measure will ensure that the ECO will not leak at this location during future use.
If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 720-942-3420 or Miguel
Hamarat at 720-942-3255.
Sincerely,
Aaron Hilshorst
Chief Environmental Engineer
Climax Molybdenum Company
Henderson Operations
CC (via email):
M.
