MINING ACTIVITY IN THE LAST YEAR:
l. Depth of mining- Much of the mining last year involved the removal of some already
exposed sand pockets, but depths did not change. Most of this was to remove some humps
and bumps so reclamation could be done more easily.
2. Backfilling- Once mining ceased a great deal of backfilling was done simply by
rearranging what was there and hauling a lot of pond cleanings that are intended for
backfilling. In general the clays were used to fill in holes that would be topped with
overburden and finally topsoil. Having a clayey base will help greatly with producing very
strong growth.
A. Depth of backfilling-Backfilling was done to elevate the floor so sloping as required
can be implemented without having to expand boundaries much to obtain fill by
cutting.
B. Material used in backfilling-Both clay(pond cleanings) and sand were used in a
layered fashion.
C. Maximum, minimum, and average slopes-A transit is being used to measure slopes
and especially to lay out the profile of the drainageway down the middle.
D. Deviation from original elevation for new backfllled land- The slopes are coming
out very close to the approximately 5:1 expected. Shaping the land to produce a good
blending of the pit into the surrounding landscape is more important than the actual
depth. The depth is taking care of itself nicely just by producing the required slope
gradients.
3. Processing facilities-These have been largely disassembled and are being moved out to
other locations or taken to salvage if the equipment is too worn out to be worth repairing.
Some of this equipment has been here since the mid-1980's and parts are hardly even
available anymore.
4. Access corridors- These are still being used.
5. New soil and overburden stockpiles- Nothing was added and nothing was removed yet.
RECLAMATION ACTIVITY IN THE LAST YEAR:
1. Climatic summary of previous year-Please see earlier discussion on the climate. That pretty
well sums it up.
2. Topsoiling-No topsoiling was done in the last year. But it is coming later this year.
A. Locations of topsoiling- N/A.
Status report for 2019 due July 15, 2019 Page 3 of 5
