C-26 rl
No provision is made for personal hygiene uses(such as showers, etc.), as such activities will be carried out offsite.
Onsite sanitation facilities will be provided by portable toilet units,to be serviced on a regular basis by a third-parry
contractor. Potable water will be delivered to the site, also to be serviced on a regular basis by a third-party
contractor.
(i) GROUNDWATER—AFFECT ON QUANTITY AND QUALITY
Irrespective of the selected water supply alternative, all process water will be purchased from a third-party source
and imported to the site;thus, there will be neither direct groundwater withdrawals nor consumptive use associated
with the mining and processing operations.
As previously described in Exhibit B: Site Description, the first-encountered economic aquifer is that of the
Denver Basin (Fox Hills sandstone), typically encountered at depths in excess of 500-ft. below ground surface in
the area. Comparatively, the anticipated maximum mining depth at the Keenesburg Project will be limited to
between 25-ft. and 50-ft.,to be carried out only within the surficial (eolian) sand zone.
There is the potential for mining activity to encounter localized and random saturated zones and/or perched
groundwater (to the extent present); however, such features are not considered economic or yield-sustaining
"aquifers". Thus, there would be no measurable adverse effect on groundwater quantity.
Mineral processing operations at the Keenesburg Project are limited to those associated with a"wash"plant utilizing
fresh water only. Process residuals (i.e., fines) will then be slurried to the fines recovery pit, wherein natural
evaporation and infiltration effects will be employed. Thus, there will be no adverse effect on the localized
groundwater regime, shallow or otherwise.
