C-10 r1
(b) ESTIMATED DEPTH TO WHICH GROWTH MEDIUM WILL BE SALVAGED
The results of soils investigation efforts conducted to date indicate that the root zone depth to be encountered within
the Permit Area will extend no deeper than 8- to 12-inches below existing ground surface, as the vegetative
community at the site is limited to that of various grasses, prickly pear cactus, and sand sagebrush, all of which are
typical of the types of vegetation found regionally on similar,heavily-grazed,rangeland.
Based on these findings, CSC anticipates pre-stripping (i.e., removal for "topsoil" salvage purposes) of the
uppermost (approximately) 12-inches of material from virtually all areas that will be subject to mine-related
disturbance and/or otherwise occupied by the mine pit, fines recovery pit, process plant area, loadout loop road, and
other areas deemed subject to surface disturbance (and subsequent final site reclamation). Each of these areas of
disturbance is described in greater detail within Exhibit D: Reclamation Plan; however, CSC estimates that, in
total, approximately 55%of the overall 9.9 acre permit area will be subject to the pre-stripping activity(areas to be
occupied by temporary structures will not be pre-stripped; however, they will be subject to reclamation at the
conclusion of all mining/processing activities). Accordingly,CSC estimates that"topsoil"salvage will encompass,
in total, some 8,800 yd3 of material.
The pre-stripped"topsoil"(more appropriately classified as "growth medium")will be temporarily stockpiled(for
eventual re-use in site reclamation activities) in two discrete areas (as depicted on Exhibit E-1: Mine Plan Map),
as follows:
Topsoil Stockpile "TS-IA"): TS-lA will occupy a dedicated stockpile area at the west end of the main mine pit.
TS-lA will be considered the main topsoil stockpile,as it is anticipated that a nominal 7,200 yd3 of growth medium
material will be temporarily stored in the feature. The TS-lA stockpile will have nominal dimensions of about 200-
ft. x 200-ft.,with a nominal height of approximately 6-ft.; side slopes will be maintained at natural angle of repose
(approximately 3H:1 V).
Due to the limited duration of mining activities(i.e., less than 6 months),no specific interim stabilization measures
are proposed. The available time would not allow for establishment of an interim vegetative cover. CSC has,
however, placed the stockpile adjacent and to the east of the product storage sheds in order to minimize the feature's
