Homestake Mining Company May 10,2019
Regular(112d)Operation Reclamation Permit Application Package
displacement (Olson, 1988) which brought Precambrian crystalline bedrock on the hanging wall
(east) into contact with younger, Paleozoic sedimentary bedrock on the footwall (west). Paleozoic
strata have been folded into an overturned syncline because of the movement along the fault
(Olsen, 1983). Most of the faulting and deformation is constrained to the Laramide-time based on
observations of similar faulting in Cretaceous10 bedrock approximately 15 miles to the west;
however, steep dips within Oligocene waterlaid tuff adjacent to the Chester fault indicate that the
fault likely experienced some post-Laramide movement (Nash, 1980; Olson, 1988). This is
plausible given that north-south trending faults approximately 2 miles east of the southern Chester
fault are known to offset Oligocene volcanic at the surface (Olson, 1983; Nash, 1980).
i6AWN 14,000N 36"24' 12.OWN 10,000N
77
'^
P r
 M a
PC
Pbrn y `
PC
CT _
p V m u
Pbm
Y L aC
6.t .q
C.l.
