As the day progressed, transects were
conducted from the northern section of the bench to the haul road located on the southwest side of the bench. On
Wednesday the 22nd, transects started at the base of the haul road and progressed towards the reclaimed bench. A
total of 30 transects were completed for the mine site. Transects were created using ARCGIS with a tool called a
fishnet. A total of 50 transects were created due to the steep topography of the site. Not all transects were
accessible once identified on the ground. The Collector App on an IPhone was used to located the start points of
the transects. Each transect was 10 meters long and vegetation was documented with a laser pointer bar at the 1st
meter, 3rd meter, 5th meter, 7th meter and 9th meter. A laser pointer bar with ten evenly spaced lasers were used
to document the diversity of the vegetation along the transects (Photo 5). Clippings were taken from a 1 square
meter sample along the transects at the 3rd meter marker (Photo 6) for vegetative density measurements. The
clippings were placed in bags and marked with which transect they came from. The clippings were dried and
weighed after the inspection. Woody plant species and noxious weeds were not clipped. Plant Species commonly
identified at the mine site included; Elymus elymoides (Bottlebrush squirletail), Pascopyrum (Western
