4. Topsoil, Overburden Handling
Topsoil will be salvaged from all Mining Areas as well as the reclaimed slope that needs to be
re-disturbed. Topsoil from Mining Area 1 will be stockpiled in Topsoil Stockpile 1 located in the
Eastern portion of the permit area. All other topsoil will be directly replaced. Overburden
encountered during mining will be placed on the pit floor of previously excavated areas. The
expected average topsoil thickness available for salvage is approximately 6 inches with a
stripping range of 3-8 inches. The topsoil stockpile will be seeded with the rangeland seed mix.
5. Water Handling
All water for dust control will be transported to the site via a water truck. On site water will not
be required for the operations. All historic water rights and flow ways will not be altered and
will be protected under requirements called out in the storm water management plan to be issued
by the Colorado Department of Health and Environment prior to the commencement of
operations.
6. Schedule of Operations
Mining operations will only occur as dictated by demand. Mining, crushing and screening may
take place in any part of the year but is expected to be limited to less than 7 months per year.
Product will be sold throughout the year, although far less material is expected to be sold in
winter months. The operator will not have night gravel mining operations, although minor truck
activity or repairs may occur after hours. The operator is requesting that hours of operation be as
follows Monday-Friday Sam—5 pm.
7 Ouray County Impacts and Environmental Impacts
The aggregate production is estimated to be 7,000 tons annually. Sales are expected to be 7,000
tons per year, although this is only approximate since past forecasts of economic conditions have
been erratic. Impacts to Ouray County include:
a) Truck traffic: DOT legal trucks will access to and from the site primarily on Government
Springs Road to Hwy 550.
