Thickness of Deposit to be Mined
The thickness of the deposit to be mined varies throughout the proposed pit. There are two
different areas that mining activities are set to be performed. For reference, please refer to the
attached Mining Plan Map which will show these different locations.
Area One (1)will be an open face mining operation using an existing open face gravel high wall
left in place from past mining operations. The height of the high wall's face is approximately
30 feet and will be mined back to West mixing in existing overburden material. The mining
will continue to the West in 8 acre increments as materials are needed. Mining will go
up to 30 feet deep.Mining will continue to the Western most boundary of expansion.
Area Two(2)is located to the South of Area One.At this location, there are three natural gravel
fingers that run in a North to South general direction towards Interstate 70.We will be working
from East to West through these fingers and plan on mining all three of the stated fingers
continuously at the same time to keep production moving forward quickly. If one of the areas
stops producing needed pit run gravel material, we will stop mining in that area and move to
the next finger immediately to the West of where we are currently working. Topsoil material
will be stripped from each finger before mining activities begin in each area. Topsoil material
will be stockpiled in the same areas as stated above and seeded to ensure the salvaged
material can be used for reclamation. As each finger is relatively similar in elevation and
thickness, we plan on being able to mine material out of them at a depth of approximately
30-40 feet. The same mining methods and procedures will be used for this area as briefly
described above for Area One.
Maior Mining Components
As this pit is intended for very simple mining techniques, no improvements will be needed to
support the mining activities in the expanded area. As the pit is located directly on the West
Side of CR 28 and just South of a private access road designed and already approved for the
Limon Wind Farm, we will only need to build expand the access road to the west to access this
proposed site. This road will be constructed to allow for two lane traffic and is shown on the
provided Mining Plan Map.
Once you have exited the private wind farm access road and have turned onto the existing mine
access road, you will travel directly South for approximately 700'. At this point you will run into
an existing road, which runs East to West located just North of the current mining area. This is
the road that will be extended to the West in order to access the expansion. This will allow for
safe and efficient two lane construction traffic within the site. The area in which the road
expansion is made will be included in our permit boundaries to ensure we stay in compliance
with the guidelines necessary to obtain a 112 permit.
No permanent or large structures will be constructed on the property due to the simplicity
of the mining operation.
No fuel or oil will be stored onsite. Fuel and service trucks will be brought in as needed to fulfill
the necessary needs of the mining equipment.
