2.05.3 <br />The truck traffic which will utilize this haul road segment will be 10 wheel haul <br />trucks. Haul Road #2 is essentially flat and located on the most stable <br />available slopes to minimize erosion. <br />Design and Construction <br />For the construction of all of the roads on site, all vegetation material and <br />topsoil will be removed from the design road bed, shoulders, and surfaces <br />where associated structures will be placed. Topsoil will be placed in one of <br />the topsoil stockpiles located on site. No vegetation material ortopsoil will be <br />placed beneath or in any haul road embankment. <br />The material for the embankment shall be reasonably free of organic <br />material, coal or coal blossom, frozen materials, wet or peat material, natural <br />soils containing organic matter or any other material considered unsuitable <br />for use in embankment construction by the DRMS. Acid- or toxic -forming <br />substances will not be used in the haul road surfacing or embankment. <br />The following embankment specification applies to road sections not within <br />the disturbed area in accordance with Rule 4.05.2(4). In the placement of <br />embankment for the haul road, materials will be spread in layers <br />approximately 12 inches deep, and such lifts made uniformly over long <br />stretches and for the full width of the embankment. Each lift will be <br />moistened or dried to a uniform moisture content suitable for maximum <br />compaction. Hauling equipment will be routed both ways over the fill and <br />routing varied sufficiently to achieve uniform compaction. Compaction will be <br />carried to the edge of the fills so that the final slopes are firm. A sheepsfoot <br />roller or other suitable equipment may be required to achieve compaction. <br />Compaction of each lift will continue until the unit dry weight of the lift <br />reaches a value not less than 90% of maximum unit dry weight attained in a <br />laboratory compaction test in accordance with the specifications of ASTM D <br />698, Method D. <br />Where the embankment is placed against the existing slopes, the slopes will <br />be benched and scarified down to a firm dense base as the new fill is being <br />placed. Material so loosened will be mixed with the new fill and the resultant <br />mix blended firmly into the slope. <br />PR -02 2.05-14- 10/12 <br />
