2.05.3
Before drainage from the road is allowed to flow into any defined channel it is
passed though some form of alternative sediment control. This alternative
sediment control may include straw bales, riprap, check dams, mulches,
vegetative sediment filter, dugout ponds silt fences or other measures that
reduce overland flow velocity, reduce run-off volume and trap sediment.
The combination of gravel surfacing, dust control, sediment control on the
majority of the road and utilization of alternative sediment control on the
remainder of the road will assure that erosion, siltation, pollution of air or
water, and damage to public property will be controlled. These controls will
also assure that no damage to fish and wildlife or other related environmental
values will occur.
This road is the main access to the mine facilities so employees, contractors,
vendors, supply vehicles and visitors will utilize a portion of this road. The
truck traffic which will utilize this haul road segment will be 10 and 18 wheel
trucks. This road has two 12 -foot lanes.
Haul Road #1 has an average grade of 4.5% with a maximum grade of 10%
and a maximum pitch grade of 11.1 %. There is no more than 300 feet of
pitch grade exceeding 10 percent within any consecutive 1,000 feet on the
road. The Portal Haul road is located on the most stable available slopes to
minimize erosion.
Haul Road #1 is a pre-existing road.
2) Haul Road #2 to Coal Mine Waste Pile
General Requirements
This haul road is used to haul coal refuse to the coal mine waste pile. The
haul road is approximately 65 feet long. Haul trucks will cycle between the
portal level and the coal mine waste pile. Dust control on this road segment
includes gravel surfacing and watering to maintain surface moisture.
Sediment control will be utilized to assure that erosion, siltation, pollution of
air or water, and damage to public property will be controlled. The use of
dust suppression and alternative sediment control will assure that no
damage to fish and wildlife or other related environmental values will occur.
PR -02 2.05-13- 10/12
