The inspection was
completed by Clayton Wein of the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (the Division). Jason Tuttle of
Blue Mountain Energy, Inc (BME) was present for the inspection. The weather was clar with a temperature of 45
degrees F. The ground was mostly covered with snow and muddy in some areas.
Maintenance Items:
- The inlet to the culvert for the RS -1 sump and the ditch above the RS -1 sump have filled with
sediment. The Division recommends clearing the blockage in the ditch and cleaning the entire ditch
to return it to its designed specifications. Please make cleaning this ditch a priority.
- The outlet of the culvert located at the Nitrogen Plant #2 has become buried in sediment and gravel
that had washed off of the road. Please locate and clear out the outlet of this culvert to restore it.
- The ditch located on the west side of the wash plant bench was full of sediment. The Division
recommends cleaning out the ditch as soon as possible to prevent runoff or snowmelt from
impacting the facilities.
- The drainage ditch along the section of the haul road that connects the main facilities area to
County Road 65 had become filled with sediment. The sediment traps, made out of straw bales,
were mostly filled with sediment as well. The Division recommends cleaning out the ditch and
sediment traps to original design specifications.
AVAILABILITY OF RECORDS – Rule 5.02.4(1):
The records for the Deserado Mine are located at the mining office on site.
