DIVISION 1 - GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
SECTION 01400-QUALITY CONTROL
PART 1-GENERAL
1.01 TESTING
Quality control testing shall be performed at the testing frequency specified by the drawings and project
specifications. The Mining Superintendent shall be responsible for ordering the sampling and testing, and
for coordinating the testing efforts with the construction. The Mine Superintendent shall inform the Project
Engineer of ongoing work. The Project Engineer will notify the Testing Laboratory and Design Engineer
of necessary quality assurance work.
A. Location Identification Requirements
The location(horizontal and vertical position)of all earthfill moisture/density tests shall be
recorded by the soils testing technician. The test location shall be identified by means of a hand
held GPS unit. The location shall be located to a degree of accuracy of 20' horizontally. The GPS
unit shall be calibrated to a local benchmark each day prior to testing and more frequently if
warranted by changes in weather to correct any weather induced drift in the unit. Vertical position
shall be recorded by referencing local reference staking established adjacent to the work area.
The soils testing firm will provide an as-built map depicting the test points with the test reference
number. The test reference number shall match the numbering system used by the soils testing
firm in their tabular listing of test results. This as-built map shall be updated annually and 3
copies submitted to the Mining Superintendent, who will forward 1 copy to the Project Engineer
and 1 copy to the Design Engineer(Deere&Ault Consultants,Inc.).
1.02 OTHER TESTING
If required by the Engineer, the following testing shall be performed:
A. Material Substitution
Any tests of basic material or fabrication equipment offered as a substitute for specified item on
which a test may be required in order to prove its compliance with the specifications.
B. Non-Specialized Fill Material
Materials in the embankment fill which are not specified by the drawings or technical
specifications shall be approved for use by the Engineer prior to placement. Such material may
include granular drainage material to control groundwater, riprap or riprap bedding material,or
random fill adjacent to the limits of the embankment fill materials. Prior to approving such
material for use,the Engineer may require specific testing be performed and the test results
provided for review. Quality control testing of the placed materials may also be required.
1.03 TEST REPORTS
Reports of all tests made by testing laboratories shall be delivered in triplicate by the testing laboratory to
the Mining Superintendent who will distribute them as follows:
1 copy-Mining Superintendent
1 copy-Project Engineer
1 copy-Design Engineer
Other copies -As directed
6/10 Section 01400-Page 1 of 2
