J&QCOLORADO
. Parks and Wildlife
Department of Natutal Resources
Northeast Regional Office
6060 Broadway
Denver, CO 80216
P 303.291.7227 1 F 303.291.7114
To Whom it May Concern,
The following comments are provided for the 38.69 acre property located at 25295 North
Elbert Road, Elbert Co in reference to gravel mining operations on this site.
The habitat in the vicinity is native short grass prairie adjacent to the cottonwood/willow
dominated riparian area of Kiowa Creek. This operation is separated from the riparian area by
the Elbert Highway. Historically the property has been used as a gravel production site. The
habitat on the property outside the existing work area is native short grass prairie. The
existing and future impacts to this site from human disturbance are negligible on the
landscape scale.
The wildlife resources in the vicinity consist of game and non-game conservation species. The
game species include mule deer, white tailed deer, elk, pronghorn, small game and
furbearing animals. Conservation species of the area include swift fox, various passerine
birds, and raptors including golden eagle and bald eagle (mid-winter).
The property is utilized by pronghorn, mule deer, small game and furbearers on a year round
basis. This utilization is primarily limited to crossing the property or limited foraging. The
adjacent riparian corridor supports migratory birds during spring and fall migration.
The future condition of the property upon completion of mining operations should be habitat
restoration to native short grass prairie plant species.
There are no known T&E species on the property.
Any questions regarding this letter may be directed to Casey Westbrook at (303)810-3141.
Casey Westbrook
District Wildlife Manager
Colorado Parks and Wildlife
(303)810-3141c
Bob D.Brcnchetd,Diret ltx,Cotot'ado Parks anti Wildlife•Parks and Wildlife Conuntsst<ri:Robert W.Bray-Marie Fktskelt•c<v rte Besnette FWuser T •,
John Howard,Chair•Marvin McDaniel•Date Ptzel-Jim Speh,ir•James Vtgit.Secretary•Dean Wingfield• Michelle Znn,nerrnan,Vice-Chair-Alex ZipP
1976
