(ii) Time of seeding, seedbed preparation, type, application rate and soil
incorporation, method of fertilization application.
(iii) The typical NRCS recommendation is to seed between November 15t and
April 30th. Fall seeding is preferred and proposed if at all possible. The
seedbed will be scarified and it will be across the slope in the backsloped
area. Seed will be drilled rather than broadcast. Cereal grain straw or
grass hay (free of weed seeds) will be applied at the rate of 4,000 pounds
of mulch per acre to the soil surface. Application method for grass seed
will be applied by a drill with a competent agitator. It will be drilled across
slope on the backslopes.
This table shows the species to be planted and applicable quantities but is
subject to change based on NRCS recommendations:
Species
Mix %
#/Acre PLS*
Blue Grama
30
0.9
Western Wheatgrass
30
4.8
Sideoats Grama
15
1.5
Needleandthread
10
1.1
Indian Ricegrass
5
0.6
Galleta grass (caryopsis)
5
0.2
Purple Prairieclover
5
0.3
Winterfat
0.5
• *seeding rates are given in pounds of Pure Live Seed (PLS**)
**PLS= purity x germination
(iv) 40 lbs. of nitrogen and 40 lbs. of phosorous per acre fertilization are
proposed.
