With approximately 4,240 linear feet of mine perimeter, that area equates to
4.62 acres. The topsoil/stockpile area is approximately 3 acres,so the total area required to be topsoiled and
seeded is 7.62 acres(conservatively increased to 8 acres in order to include any areas of heavy equipment
traffic). These areas will be covered with 6-12 inches of topsoil. The topsoil will be moved a short distance
as it is being stored on-site,the travel distance should be no more than 0.4 miles maximum.Operations will
consist of 10 loads per hour and 23 cubic yards per load. This equates to approximately 561.16 loads or
56.12 hours.
The cost for native seed was calculated using the recommended seed mix from the USDA-MRCS for the
project location and estimates of cost per pure live seed(PLS)per species from Pawnee Buttes Seed Inc.3
The cost was calculated by converting the cost per PLS per species into a total cost per species for the full
reclamation area(approximately 8 acres). A weighted average was calculated based on the percentage of
each seed species to use as an approximate estimate for the seed mix. As mentioned, it is recommended
that a cover crop is grown in the reclaimed area to create better growing conditions for the native seed. This
cost was accounted for by using the same estimate as the native seed,in order to remain conservative.
The cost for the armored inlet will include a small amount of grade work, topsoiling and seeding(included
in the total for these items), spillway grade concrete, CDOT Class 1 bedding and Type M Rprap.
