Figure 1 shows the area of both sites captured in
GoogleEarth; the Spring Creek Pit is outlined in red, the Base Products Gravel Pit 1 is shown as
two parcels outlined in blue. Current mining and reclamation plans for each pit include final pit
slopes of 3H:IV around all slopes.
A small strip of land totaling—8 acres exists between the two pits, outlined in yellow shown on
Figure 1. This strip is originally planned to remain once both pits are completed; however, the
strip is now proposed to be collectively mined to the pit floor elevation. Both Oldcastle SW
Group Inc. dba United Companies of Mesa County and Rock Pile, LLC commit to mining to a
common floor. During mining operations, a minimum two-foot tall stormwater berm will be
maintained between the sites to keep runoff separate.
Removal of this pit separation berm will result in a large combined final reclamation foot print.
Reclamation plans for both sites involve final grading of the pit, topsoil replacement, and
revegetation with rangeland species and do not differ from one another. Both Oldcastle SW
Group Inc. dba United Companies of Mesa County and Rock Pile, LLC commit to reclaiming
the mined separation strip to the standards outlined in their collective approved reclamation
plans.
Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions, concerns, or comments.
Sincerely,
