Most of the suitable habitat and associated prey in the LMA are found at <br />elevations above those areas where exploration drill sites and access roads would be built. <br />Above 9400 feet the spruce -fir is denser and has better conditions for snowshoe hares <br />than the more open stands found at lower elevations. Within the better stands at higher <br />elevations, the numbers of snowshoe hares is higher than at lower elevations. Below 9400 <br />feet the habitat is dominated by aspen with pockets of spruce -fir. Most of the spruce -fir <br />pockets are limited to drainages. In these areas a few snowshoe hares are found around <br />11 <br />
