PERMIT#:M-1973-021
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: MAC
INSPECTION DATE: February 28,2017
Central Quarry:
The Central Quarry is currently being used to stockpile material and equipment. During the previous
inspection, a small area of ponded water was located at the south end of the Central Quarry. This area of
ponded water has been eliminated and final grading of the quarry walls has been completed. A fuel storage
area is located within the Central Quarry; all fuel storage tanks were within spill containment areas.
South Quarry:
Active mining operations are being carried out in the South Quarry. In 2016, mining occurred between 6,600'
and 7,360' and was primarily confined to the western portions of the quarry. Mining will continue within the
same footprint in 2017, with no planned expansion of the South Quarry. The Operator is currently mining the
7,000' level. The quarry benches will transition from 40' to 70' below the 7,000' level.
Roads:
The Operator is planning on realigning the haul road in 2017. The new haul road alignment will wrap around
the central quarry and will provide a safer route to access the upper levels of the South Quarry.
Revegetation:
The Operator reclaimed approximately 2.7 acres at the uppermost levels of the South Quarry. The reclaimed
area is not currently accessible and the Division was unable to evaluate the vegetation in this area. The
Division observed diffuse knapweed around the perimeter of the affected area. Weed control is conducted
annually at the Morrison Quarry is contracted out to Foothills Vegetation Management.
Signs and Markers:
A permit sign was displayed at the site entrance and the boundary of the affected area was adequately
delineated as required by Rule 3.1.12.
