subgrade will be loosened by using either a disc or plow. In addition, the subgrade is to be a
component of the plant growth material. As such, additional manipulation of the subgrade may be
necessary. Such additional manipulation could include ripping, application of soil amendment,
disking in available plant growth material, harrow application, etc. Once topsoil is replaced, it
will be prepared for seeding using typical seedbed preparation techniques. (Seepage 73) Fertilizer
will be applied based on soil tests. Soil test will be done once the subgrade is exposed and prior to
any seed bed preparation.
(iii) State the grass, forb and tree species to be planted and the application quantities. Specify the
quantity of each grass and forb species as pounds of pure live seed per acre:
No trees or shrubs are to be planted.
SPECIES
VARIETY
RATE
(PLS Ib/ac)
Sand bluestem
Woodward
2.5
Switchgrass
Nebraska 28
2.5
Prairie sandreed
Pronghom
2.0
Alkali sacaton
-
2.0
Big bluestem
Kaw
2.5
Canada wildrye
Manadan
2.5
Western wheatgrass
Barton
3.0
Blue grama
-
.?5
Purple prairie clover
-
0.0ft5
Total:
17.755
*Double the drill seeding rate to obtain broadcast seeding rate.
(iv) Specify the application methods for grass and forb seeding, drill seeding or broad cast:
• Drill seed using a drill with separate seed bins for small seed and the drill should have an
agitator and depth bands.
• This is an example seed mix.
