(12) Escapeway
• This mine portal was constructed to provide an emergency exit for Mine
Number 1; it also houses the Mine Number 1 air heaters. The one-
story, 15' x 20' x 10' high, structure is constructed of sheet metal
and sits on a concrete foundation. It has a steel plate door which is
not loced, and it is posted "Escapeway".
(13) Rock Dust Bin
This structure is elevated to accommodate the track passing beneath,
bringing overall height to 33 feet. Otherwise, this bin is identical
in use and construction to that described in Item 5, and is similarly
equipped with an exhaust filter and a "full" indicator light.
(14) Coarse Refuse Bin
The coarse refuse bin stores refuse material from the coal breaker.
• It is a 30 foot high, square, steel plate bin, 18' x 18', on a
concrete footer foundation. The bin has a "full" indicator light, and
the conveyor carrrying refuse to the bin is equipped with a spray bar
to guard against dust dispersion.
(15) Surge Bin and Coal Breaker
This 70 foot, four-story, all -metal, 47' x 20' structure receives raw
coal from both mines. The breaker unit is enclosed, and all chutes,
belts, and belt drop areas are equipped with metal shrouds to contain
dust. All material transfer points are equipped with spray bars. A
fire extinguisher is located on each level of the structure.
