i
The treatment ponds will be periodically cleaned of algae, cattails and sediment. The
pond sediment is saturated so transport after initial pond cleaning will not be performed.
The pond cleanings will initially be stored next to and above the ponds. After a suitable
drying period, the pond cleanings will be permanently disposed of in the area shown on
drawing D-2-5. Pond cleanings will be covered with at least two feet of soil. Since pond
cleanings are only generated every five to ten years, the disposal site will be vegetated
with the permanent seed mixture after each use.
Each use of the disposal site will require the burial of up to 100 cubic yards of pond
cleanings. A 3 -foot deep disposal area 35 -feet by 45 -feet will contain 100 cubic yards.
Pond cleanings disposal will consist of the following activities:
1. Topsoil and existing vegetation will be salvaged from the disposal site.
2. The disposal trench will be excavated.
3. Pond cleanings will be transported and placed in the disposal trench.
4. Pond cleanings will be covered with at least two feet of soil.
5. The salvaged topsoil will be placed over the disturbed area.
6. The disturbed area will be seeded with the permanent seed mixture.
Existing vegetation consists of grasses and small brush. This vegetative mixture will be
salvaged with the topsoil to enhance re -vegetation efforts. The entire disposal process
should not take over one week. Therefore, some of the vegetation contained in the topsoil
should re-establish and accelerate the re -vegetation process.
4-66i
11/99
