7. Lake County Impacts and Environmental Impacts
The Box Creek Placer operation dates back to 1898 and was worked intermittently since that
time. The impacts to Lake County will be limited. Watering will be used to mitigate dust
generated by the operation as needed. Noise will be very limited with the nearest house being
approximately 1000 feet from the nearest processing area. Traffic will be very limited at the site
as it is not anticipated to produce commercial gravel.
The projected final use of the site is high altitude rangeland and ponds. The reclamation plan
calls for much smoother surfaces obtained by overburden replacement and compaction,
placement of topsoil or substitute topsoil on all areas, and seeding and tree sapling planting and
monitoring. Wetland areas are planned along the creeks and ponds within the site and will be
retained after reclamation as shown on the Reclamation Plan Map F-1. It is believed that the
nature of this plan will be mutually beneficial to the Town of Leadville, Lake County, and the
Operator.
Box Creek Placer Mine Greg 1. icki and Asa wtm PLLC
September 2018 D-13
