puttylike when wet and yellow to gray in color. "False bedrock" occurs in localized pockets
above the lake beds, but are not persistent.
Shoreline features are mapped on the slopes between terrace tops and valley floors. Gravel
thicknesses in the Box Creek Placers generally ranges from less than 10—35 feet. Placer gravels
are thicker to the east and thin towards the west. At the mouth of Box Creek in the area of the
Starnes Pit, gravel thicknesses exceed 60 feet. Two principle "bedrock" channels exist: the
southern channel first exploited by the Derry Dredge, and the northern channel principally
exploited by Hallenbeck via a dragline and dryland processing plant.
Wetland delineation for the project area was completed in 2015 and revised in 2016. The study
identified 83.13 acres of potentially jurisdictional wetlands throughout the site. Current wetlands
areas within the site are outlined on maps C-1, C-2, and F-1, see Appendix 2.No wetlands will
be disturbed at any point of mining or reclamation of the Box Creek Placer. A 10-foot buffer
zone will be maintained around all wetland areas during all phases of mining and reclamation.
More description of wetland distinctions and the 2016 geosUSA, Inc. report comments are
including in Exhibit J—Vegetation Information.
The exact source of Box Creek placer gold is unconfirmed but is hypothesized to be derived
from the moraines found near Lake Creek, Bartlett Gulch and supraglacial moraines from the
tributary glaciers of Mount Elbert to the northwest. Moraines above the Box Creek Valley along
Herrington Creek and Corske Creek were targets of exploration by a number of mining
companies after Hallenbeck. Drill holes, trenches, and active mining at the Willow Creek mine
support the gold bearing nature of these moraines. The head of Corske Creek, referred to as the
"Lily Pond,"remains an exploration focus in the area. Few patented and dominantly unpatented
mining claims surround Corske Creek east of Mount Elbert.
Five mineable target areas are identified within the Box Placer area based on current cut-off
grades experienced in the Fairplay-Alma district by the Applicant. These four areas are not new
targets but expansions from previously mined zones. The order of mining is reserved by the
Operator and will be determined based on previous area's geology studied during mining as well
as logistics. Direction of mining will generally by uphill, but gross phasing will be determined by
gold grades and processing plant locations. One or more of the mining areas shown on Plate 1
Box Creek Placer Mine Greg Ixwkki and Aswiatm PLI.I
September 2018 D-2
