grass to minimize blowing or erosion. When area number one is mined, the top soil
will be spread out evenly and the 3:1 slope maintained on the sidewalls. Area 1 will
then be seeded according to the reclamation plan. The next area to be mined will be
to the west of area one. Areas 2 through 6 lie immediately west of area 1 in
consecutive order. That area lying 200' on each side of the existing natural gas
pipeline will not be disturbed.
On-site processing could occur.
i) Since the pit will be used on an intermittent basis, it is difficult to estimate the
time it will take to mine all seven areas. We are estimating that it will take ten
years to mine the expanded pit.
ii) Area 1 is the existing permitted area of 9.9 acres (Hansel Pit#1 - M-2010-036).
It has been mined over the last two years and is approaching the point where
usable material will be exhausted. Our plan is to finish mining area 1, open Area
2, immediately to the west, and begin reclamation of Area 1. Areas 2 through 6
are vary from 4—9 acres in size.
iii) Area 1 is currently being mined under the existing permit. Areas 2 - 7 will be
mined in numerical order, moving from east to west.
iii) Area 2 is currently being mined. As staked, it calculates to be 7.45 acres.
Area 2 will be expanded to the north, adding 3.67 acres, giving area 2 a new
total area of 11.12. A new cost estimate is provided covering the expanded
area 2.
f) The pit will be accessed from Co. Rd. 16. When the pit reaches Areas 5 and 6, access
will be changed to Co. Rd. 1. The access from Co. Rd. 16 would then no longer be
used. The driveway will be left in place for the use of the landowner. Both
driveways are included in the permitted pit area and will remain after reclamation for
landowner use. They will be seeded. There will be temporary haul roads inside the
pit area, but they will be removed as reclamation occurs.
g) There will be no shop, plant, or other facilities permanently located at the mine site.
Equipment will be maintained at the site only when mining is occurring. This will be
on a periodic basis since material will only be mined on an as needed basis. The
equipment used to mine the gravel will be primarily a front-end loader, large track
hoe, dozer, and trucks. Equipment will typically be filled with fuel from portable fuel
tanks. Any portable tanks at the site will be placed out of the drainage area and out of
the active working area to prevent fuel spills or related hazards. This and good
housekeeping will minimize the potential of any contamination. The final mine floor
will always remain a minimum of 2 feet above static water level and should pose no
threat to ground water. Equipment will be serviced out of the mining area.
