RU
Species diversity and visual cover estimates of interim reclamation activities which occur
prior to final reclamation will be monitored in the third growing season following seeding.
This sampling will not achieve statistical adequacy. Evaluation of revegetation efforts
shall begin following the year of initial seeding of a reclamation management unit.
Evaluation of seeded areas and shrub clumps shall occur in year 4 and two years prior to
final bond release. The results of the revegetation success evaluation will be submitted to
the Division with the Annual Reclamation Report for the year.
Vegetative cover and diversity will be sampled using 25 meter long intercept transects.
The reclaimed area and reference area will be sampled separately. Sampling transect
locations for both reclaimed areas and the reference area will be provided on the vegetation
map.
Ten transects will initially be conducted in each area. Sample size will be determined as
sufficient using the SnedecorCochran sample adequacy formula (equation 1), or when 50
transects have been sampled.
(1)
Nm,',(t2S)/(dxbar)2
N,,,,,, = the minimum number of observations needed,
t=1.833 (the Mable value for a two -tailed t-test with (10-1) degrees of freedom at
the 90% confidence level)
s2 = the sample variance,
d = .1 (level of precision for estimate of the mean to be within 10% of the actual
mean), and,
xbar— sample mean
Initially, ten transects will be randomly located and oriented in each area.
Transect locations or orientations that result in overlap of previous transects
or the sampling area boundary will be randomly redirected prior to the point of
overlap.
Data from the ten initial transects will be used to determine sample size
adequacy. If sample size adequacy is reached with ten transects, no further
transects will be monitored.
Ground cover will be evaluated along each transect by sampling two points (1.0 -
meter apart) at 1.0-m intervals. Cover will be classified as vegetation, litter,
or rock. Lack of cover will be classified as bare soil. Vegetation will be
further classified by species. Each transect will consist of SO point samples.
Section 2.05 RN -6 10/17/2016
