62
habitat. Wildlife habitat is divided into two habitat types, riparian and upland. The
basic rangeland mix will be used in all seeding's. As shown in Table 26, additional
species are added to the rangeland mix because it has been successful on the
revegetation side of the Purgatoire River diversion.
Table 26 Rangeland seed mix
Species (common name)
lbs. Drilling of seeds will be accomplished on slopes less than 3H:1V.
Broadcasting seed will be accomplished on steeper slopes with mechanical
broadcasters, hand broadcasters, or by hydro seeding. Where the broadcast seeding
method is utilized, seeding rates will be doubled. NECC was very pleased with the
hydro seeding efforts on the Middle Fork diversion and refuse area dam and RDA
outslopes. In addition, we observed significantly more germination and less erosion
in areas where slopes were left in a roughened condition.
Mulching will include either application of straw or hay mulch at a rate of 2 tons per
acre. Straw or hay will be crimped after application. NECC will also utilize hydro
mulching at an equivalent rate of straw or hay mulch.
No irrigation is planned for the land uses proposed during the permit term. However,
it is conceivable after sloping the New Elk facilities, flood irrigation may occur on
the rangeland adjacent to the Middle Fork of the Purgatoire River.
Section 2.05 RN -6 10/17/2016
