2.2.3 Water Retained in Product
Consumption use associated with water retained in washed material was calculated based upon the
percentages (by weight) outlined in the Guidelines. In summary, a 4% loss was calculated for material
mined below the groundwater table and a 2% loss was estimated for material mined above the groundwater
table. Of the 350,000 Tons that Everist estimates will excavate per year during 2017 and 2018,
approximately 20% will be mined above the groundwater table; the remaining 80% will be excavated from
below the water table. Calculations show that losses due to water retained in washed material will be
approximately 9.3 AF per year(Table 4).
Table 4
Estimated Water Retained in Product for 2017 and 2018
Mined Material Water
Month Above Below Total in Washed
GW GW Product
(Tons) (Tons) (Tons) (AF)
Jan 0 0 0 0.00
Feb 0 0 0 0.00
Mar 0 0 0 0.00
Apr 6,300 25,200 31,500 0.83
May 7,000 28,000 35,000 0.93
Jun 7,700 30,800 38,500 1.02
Jul 10,500 42,000 52,500 1.39
Aug 10,500 42,000 52,500 1.39
Sep 9,800 39,200 49,000 1.30
Oct 12,600 50,400 63,000 1.67
Nov 5,600 22,400 28,000 0.74
Dec 0 0 0 0.00
Total 70,0001 280,0001 350,000 9.27
2.2.4 Water Consumption due to Concrete Batching
Water consumption associated with production of concrete was calculated assuming an average of 30
gallons of water is needed to produce 1 CY of concrete. For 2017 and 2018, Everist estimates producing
65,000 CY of concrete each year; the associated water loss equals 6.0 AF. Table 5, below, shows the
monthly distribution of water consumptive uses required for production of concrete.
2.2.5 Water Consumed by Concrete Truck Washing
Historic records provided by Everist show that, on average, approximately 24.7 gallons of water per CY of
concrete is needed to wash the concrete trucks. Water utilized to wash concrete trucks is collected from
the wash area and available for reuse. A 10% consumptive loss factor is applied to the total water used
during concrete truck washing operations. The estimated losses for 2017 and 2018 are 0.5 AF (Table 5).
2.2.6 Water Consumption by Asphalt Production
Water consumption associated with the production of CDOT Asphalt at MCR is estimated at approximately
5 'agRESOURCE
