Introduction <br /> The Garrett Pit (M-1978-271) is located approximately 13.5 miles south of Monte Vista, CO in <br /> Conejos County at an elevation of 7730 feet. The Garrett Pit was permitted in 1978 at 9.8 acres <br /> with a 110 Limited Impact Permit for the purpose of mining gravel. In 1982. the DRMS permit <br /> was converted from a 110 permit to a 112 Construction Materials Permit with an acreage <br /> increase resulting in a total permit acreage of 80.0. The property and mineral rights are owned <br /> by Henry Southway and was acquired from Clyde and Marie Garrett in 1993.
