Power supply and distribution
All fuel tanks will have secondary containment. Some are double walled, others will be located
within bermed or lined areas that have over 110% of the volume of the largest stored tank. Fuel
tanks may be found in the northern extent of the currently permitted site within the processing
area; See Maps C-1 and C-2. Several hazardous materials will be stored and used onsite
throughout the project. These materials include products which are associated with diesel motors,
and products associated with asphalt and concrete production.
No night mining activity is scheduled for the operation; however portable lighting may be used
within the pit from time to time. Portable lights will only be used at the bottom of the pit for the
purpose of after hour equipment maintenance activities within the permitted hours in the winter
months while the days are shorter. Portable toilets will be used for employees. All portable
mining structures locations on site are shown on Map C-2.
Existing fences border the entire section and site. Where mining produces shallower than 3H:1 V
slopes. no fence is required and will not be utilized. The operator commits to clearly marking the
permit boundary. Speed limits and other traffic control signs can be found throughout the site
and around the operation area. No problems are expected with vandalism.
The site will use all existing roads to haul the product to its final destination. Mine access will be
via 9 Rd from 125/Twelvemile Road accessed from CO-368 and CO-370 and Alamosa to the
east, as it has been to this point. All roads are gravel until South County Road 4E/368 that is
paved. All roads have gravel shoulders and no sidewalks. Peak months of haulage are May
through September.
No formal sediment settling pond or sump is located within the Garrett Pit site; however, the
nature of mining leads to a depressed mined basin surrounded by site perimeter and pit specific
isolation berms. Therefore, no stormwater or process water will leave the site and all runoff
from a 100 year 24-hour rain event will be trapped on site and waters will infiltrate the pit floor
within 72 hours. Onsite drainages will not be directed off any highwall into the pit. Slopes in the
area of drainages will be maintained at or shallower than 2H:IV; easily achievable due to the
Garrett Pit _ c*rR 1 ewickia Aoclate, Pi l c
September 2018 D-5
