Spring 2018 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
South of Divide and Dry Fork Mining Areas
4.4.2 Location 2
Several small subsidence cracks with an orientation of approximately S72°W were observed
crossing the entire southern portion of the E7-9 MVB pad during our spring 2018 field visit (Figure
4). While not large, these cracks are at a location on the pad that does not suggest differential
settlement. The maximum dimensions of these non -continuous cracks were 0.75 -inches in width
and 2 inches in depth. E -seam overburden at this location is about 1,200 feet.
Figure 4. Spring 2018 eastward view of several
small subsidence cracks on the southern
portion of the MVB E7-9 pad.
Also present on the west edge of the pad were four semi -parallel differential settlement cracks
spaced about six feet apart and running roughly parallel with the existing surface topography.
These cracks had maximum dimensions of 1 inch in width and 4 inches in depth.
Lastly, there was a series of cracks running nearly north/south in the northeast corner of the pad
that appeared to indicate that a mud pit had previously occupied that area during the drilling of the
831-032.900 Wright Water Engineers, Inc.
