Site BK -2-062518; Feature 1: Possible Thermal Feature, Facing North.
2.0 SITE BK -2-062518 DISCOVERY BACKGROUND
On June 25, 2018 Tetra Tech's cultural resource monitor was observing topsoil stripping activities
associated with the construction of the haul road County Road 51 overpass culvert to the west of
Wilson Creek. Within the planned disturbance area, the monitor observed a possible prehistoric
thermal feature located at approximately 20 cm below ground surface. The monitor immediately
halted ground disturbance in the vicinity of the discovery. Further inspection collected preliminary
data about the thermal feature and identified five heat altered rock pieces. The monitor flagged
off a 100 -foot (30 m) avoidance buffer around the finding and recorded all observed material.
On June 26, Tetra Tech provided Colowyo with a discovery report detailing the finding in
conformance with Discovery Notification section of Exhibit 5, Item 3 -Cultural Resource Protection
Plan for the Collom Mine Expansion. Colowyo submitted the Discovery Notification to OSMRE,
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (DRMS) and the Office of Surface Mining
and Enforcement (OSMRE) for their review and determination whether the site is significant-,
therefore, requiring additional work.
3.0 TREATMENT METHODOLOGY
Tetra Tech developed the following Treatment Methodology based on our prior experience
working with similar sites within the project and throughout the region. The methodology is based
on OSMRE's HPTP outline provided to Tetra Tech during previous HPTP's development in 2017
for the Project.
Tetra Tech June 29, 2018
