CERTIFIED MAIL
RETURN RECEIPT NO. 7016 0750 0000 7384 2765
July 16, 2018
AGGREGATE
Mr. Jared Ebert INDUSTRIES
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Permit No. M-1977-436 -Brighton Mine- Acreage Reduction(Partial Release)Request
Dear Jared:
All mining within the boundaries of Brighton Mine Permit No. M-1977-436 has been completed
in accordance with amendment AM-01 and portions of the site have been fully reclaimed. By
this letter and the enclosed form, Aggregate Industries (Al) is requesting an acreage reduction
(partial release) of fully reclaimed areas from the boundary of the permit and proposes to
complete reclamation of one area which will remain in the permit boundary, as follows:
Acreage Reduction (Release) Area
The land proposed for removal from Permit M-1977-436 is depicted on the enclosed Acreage
Reduction Map. The acreage reduction(release) land comprises approximately 233 acres that
were reclaimed for lined water storage(South and Central Reservoirs). The reservoirs have been
lined to standards referenced in the August 1999 State Engineer Guidelines for Lining Criteria
for Gravel Pits and were approved by the Division of Water Resources on August 19, 2010
(South) and June 9, 2011 (Central). Copies of the approval letters are enclosed.
City of Thornton purchased the reservoir properties from AI in December, 2010. Thornton
obtained from Adams County a Conditional Use Permit(CUP) for its reservoir support facilities,
including pump structure, reservoir inlet/outlet structures, river inlet/outlet structures and
pipelines. The CUP was subject to review and coordination with Urban Drainage and Flood
Control District. Thornton constructed its facilities, in accordance with its CUP and areas
outside of the reservoirs have been stabilized in a manner appropriate to Thornton's use of the
property. Aggregate has continued to provide some additional weed control and seeding around
the reservoirs and believes that these areas are now sufficiently stabilized to satisfy the
requirements for release from Permit M-1977-436.
Thornton's official contact information is included on the enclosed request form.
