Revegetation Assessment-Revised
Guanetta Reservotr
Clear Creek County,Colorado
combination of subsoil and topsoil, 24 inches thick, would be placed on top of the barrier to provide
sufficient depth for the native species' roots to grow(see Table 4 for the minimum root depth of
recommended species). The subsoil would be approximately 18 inches thick, would be inert and not
contain excessive salts or sodium, and would otherwise meet DRMS requirements. The topsoil would be
a minimum of 6 inches and provide sufficient nutrients to support native grasses. Additionally, the
topsoil would be within the pH range and alkalinity/salt tolerance of the native grasses planted.
Both the topsoil and subsoil would be tested by the CSU Soil Testing Lab and the results sent to DRMS
before application at the project area. Additionally, both the topsoil and subsoil would be inspected at
their points of origin prior to placement in the project area. If noxious weeds are growing on the topsoil,
then the topsoil would not be used. Other noxious weed best management practices include using
certified weed-free mulch and seeds and inspecting the site after seeding to determine if noxious weeds
are growing. If weeds are growing, appropriate noxious weed-control methods would be used.
If testing shows that additional nutrients are needed for the subsoil, then a slow-release nitrogen
fertilizer (such as Biosol)would be applied to the soil. A fast release nitrogen fertilizer would not be
used because it only promotes weeds such as kochia, which already occurs in the project area.
Seeding Recommendations
Because the Reclamation Permit Seed Mix has compatibility issues with the existing conditions at the
project area, ERO recommends revising the mix to the native species shown in Table 4. The species in
this revised seed mix are typically found in the area and some were observed during both of the 2018
site visits.
Table 4.
