(4) Consideration of environmental and biological factors in the Reclamation Plan:
Since the post mining land use is rangeland, the primary goals of the revegetation plan are to
ensure site erosion control, stability and to provide food for domestic livestock. These goals may
be met through a combination of physical and biological measures. The NRCS will be consulted
to ensure that these goals are met.
(5) Ensure the establishment of a diverse and long-lasting vegetative cover:
In those areas where revegetation will occur, the site will be prepared to provide the best chance
for the selected plant species becoming established. Following is what is typically recommended
by local NRCS Field Offices in order to ensure seeding success.
(6) Seedbed Preparation:
The seedbed should be well settled and firm, but friable enough that the seed can be drilled at the
recommended depth. Soils having been compacted by traffic or other equipment should be tilled
(deep-chiseled or ripped if necessary)breaking up restrictive or compacted layers, and then
harrowed and rolled or packed to produce the required firm seedbed. If the seed is to be broadcast
seeded, then the seedbed should be settled and fairly firm, but left rough enough to catch the seed
and allow some coverage by soil when tracked in by equipment or harrowed and packed into the
soil surface. Avoid seedbed preparation when the soil is wet to prevent seedbed compaction.
Planting depth should be based on the recommendation for the plant species selected. Drill row
spacing should be approximately 8 inches.
(7) Methods of weed control:
The Applicant/Operator will actively control noxious weeds on the mine site. If noxious weeds
do invade the site, the weed control program will be implemented as soon as possible.
Attachment I1 contains the noxious weed control program.
(8) Fire lanes and access roads:
Not applicable, it will not be necessary to construct additional fire lanes or access roads.
(9) Delays to the revegetation process on selected areas:
It is understood by the Applicant, planting required for reclamation may be delayed, through the
period of use related to areas of refuse disposal, haul roads and road cuts. All applicable industry
stabilization standards for such areas will be followed. The Applicant is aware that no planting is
required on these areas, as follows:
(a) On any affected land being used or proposed for the deposit or disposal of refuse, until after
the cessation of operations for productive use of such refuse.
35
