Pmyt n
are dominated by herbaceous vegetation or they are composed of at least 30 percent of shrubs, respectively
(Cowardin, et al., 1979).
Wetland-I
Wetland-I (WL-1) consists of a 0.39-acre PEM/PSS fringe wetland located along the South Platte River, often
where the cutbank had slumped (Figure 2; Photo I in Photolog). Fringe wetlands were present on both the
west and east side of the river but were not mapped on the eastern side due to inaccessibility. Riparian habitat
on the east side of the river was mapped based on aerial photography and potential wetlands may be present
in this area. WL-1 was delineated based on numerous wetland species: graminoids such as reed canary grass
(Pholaris orundinacea; FACW), prairie cord grass (Spartino pectinota; FACW, rabbit's-foot grass (Polypogon
monspeliensis; FACW), barnyard grass (Echinochloo crus-galli; FAC); shrubs such as coyote willow (FACW) and
crack willow (FAC); and trees such as Eastern cottonwood (Populus deltoides; FAC) and Siberian elm (UPL).
Wetland-2
Wetland-2 (WL-2) is a small PEM wetland (0.03-acre) located along a two-track road that boarders the riparian
area (Figure 2; Photo 2 in Photolog). WL-2 was delineated based on the presence of prairie cord grass.
Wetland-3
Wetland-3 (WL-3) is a PEM/PSS wetland (0.04-acre) located in six man-made depressions found in the riparian
area (Figure 2; Photo 3 in Photolog). WL-3 was delineated based on the presence of prairie cord grass, cattail
(Typho lotifolia; OBL), and coyote willow.
Wetland-4
Wetland-4 (WL-4) is a PEM wetland (0.02-acre) located in a low spot where water collects (Figure 2; Photo 4
in Photolog). WL-4 was delineated based on the presence of prairie cord grass and smartweed (Persicaria
pensylvanica; FACW).
Wetland-5
Wetland-5 (WL-5) consists of a 0.21-acre PEM fringe wetland located along the Lupton Bottom Ditch (Figure
2; Photo 6 in Photolog).WL-5 was delineated based on the presence of prairie cord grass, barnyard grass, and
smartweed.
Wetland-6
Wetland-6 (WL-6) consists of a 3.30-acre PEM fringe wetland located along the Lupton Bottom Ditch (Figure
2; Photo 7 in Photolog). WL-6 was delineated based on the presence of Baltic rush Uuncus balticus; FACW),
bulrush (Schoenoplectus sp.; OBL), prairie cord grass, and cattail.
Wetland-7
Wetland-7 (WL-7) is a PEM wetland (0.64-acre) located in a roadside ditch (Figure 2; Photo 9 in Photolog).
WL-7 was delineated based on the presence of prairie cord grass.
Because vegetation was used as the indicator of wetlands this is likely an overestimation of actual wetlands.
Should a more in-depth assessment of wetlands be necessary, Pinyon can provide this service. Additional
wetlands were identified south of the fence line in the southeastern portion of the study area and west of the
Informal Wetland Delineation and Biological Resources Report
Weld County Gravel Pit Project
November 16, 2017 6
