b) Please.specify if the mining activities in Areas 1 and 2 intend on mining through the
berm between the adjacent site, the Spring Creek Pit, Permit No. M-1994-097 or if the
earthen berm will be maintained between the two sites. If the berm will be removed
please identify what method will be used to delineate the two sites.
Mining in Area 2 will eventually mine through to the adjacent Spring Creek Pit. Upon approval
of this amendment, Oldcastle SW Group, dba United Companies, Inc.,the operator of the Spring
Creek Pit, will submit a technical revision for the removal of their portion of the dividing berm
between the two operations. The net result will be a consistent grade between the two properties,
which will provide for better land use and reclamation on them both.
A new portion of fence will be installed once the berm is removed. This will delineate the
property line.
c) According to the maps provided it appears that an intermittent drainage will make it
difficult to haul material from Area 2 to Area 1 for processing while staying inside the
permit boundaries. Please clarify if the haul route will remain within the permit
boundary. If the haul route will leave the permit boundaries and travel through the
Spring Creek Pit,please provide a written, signed access agreement that will allow
access for hauling activities.
An existing gravel road on the property connects Area 1 and 2 together and will be the haul route
for the operator. This gravel road has been in place for many years, and it is the primary traversal
route for the landowner between Areas 1 and 2. It has been added to Maps C-1, C-2, and Map F-
1, which are attached.
2. Exhibit E—Reclamation Plan
In addition to providing the acreages ol'each of the Mining areas and a total disturbed acreage,
please outline the total acreage that will be revegetated with each.seed mix. Please also identify
in the active reclamation area at any given time, what is the average acreage that will be
.seeded with each seed mix.
The total disturbed area is 115.7 acres. The acreage of each mining area is listed in Table 1
above. The area of each post mine land use, and thus each seeding area is listed in Table 2. The
amount of area will be seeded in each area varies, as the proportion of flat pit floor to sideslopes
varies as mining progresses. Table 3 lists roughly how much of each Area is rangeland and how
much is planned to be irrigated pasture. It should be noted that these areas are not precise, and
may change if mining does not go as deep, as this would lead to shorter slopes.
Table 2—Post Mine Land Uses
Post Mine Land Use Area(acres)
Irrigated Pasture 84.1
Rangeland 31.6
Total 115.7
Appelhanz 2
