The site is a reclaimed underground mine
with a permanent water treatment series of pond remaining to treat mine water discharge. Mine records are kept in
the Clerk and Recorders office at the Garfield County Courthouse in Glenwood Springs. The weather was hot,
dry and clear during the inspection. No mine personel accompanied the inspection nor are there any persennel on
site.

AVAILABILITY OF RECORDS – Rule 5.02.4(1):
Mine records were verified at the Garfield County Clerk and Recorders Office. The Availability of
Records form is attached to this report. All records were up to date and filed appropriately.

HYDROLOGIC BALANCE - Rule 4.05
Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.05.3; Discharge Structures 4.05.7, 4.05.10; Diversions 4.05.4; Effluent Limits
4.05.2; Drainage – Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8; Impoundments 4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18:
The inspector drove to the Mine 3 area to assure that any discharges are being routed to the treatment
system through the piping system and no surface expression of the drainage was visible. The slope was dry, and
no damp or seeping areas were observed. The passive treatment area area installed by Inactive Mine Program,
appeared in good repair, and had good vegetative cover in the sump. Iron stained discharge was observed in the
ditch below the passive treatment area. The discharge in the ditch is then directed to the west end of the long pond.

Two pipes discharge water into the long pond. The larger pipe directs water from Mine 1 (portal across the river)
to the long pond, and the smaller pipe routes water from mine 3 to the long pond. The water from Mine 1 pipe
was clear, while the water from Mine 3 was very red and iron laden entering the Long pond. Iron staining did not
continue very far in the Long Pond. Most of the discoloration had dropped out within roughly 30 feet from the
inflow. Cattails and other hydrophilic vegetation was growing in the long pond and performing as a filter. By the
time the water reached to east end of the long pond, the water was clear prior to discharging via pipe to treatment
pond 1, T-1.
