Rule 2.04.6(1)-(2) — Geology Description
The geology description contained in Tab 6 of the permit includes a description of
stratigraphy and structure of the permit area and the adjacent area. Tab 6 includes information
that describes the relationship of the structural geology and the occurrence, movement, quality
and quantity of potentially impacted surface and groundwater. This included information about
the feasibility of the proposed reclamation plan, assessment of the potential for off-site impacts
to the hydrologic balance, assists in the development of the Probable Hydrologic Consequences
and the Hydrologic monitoring plan. A geologic map is included and meets the requirements of
Rule 2.10. The geologic maps include information regarding: the nature, depth, and thickness of
the coal seams to be mined, any other coal seams in the permit area, the stratum of the
overburden, and the stratum immediately below the lowest coal seam. The strike and the dip of
the coal mined was included and the location of the outcrops located in the permit area. Core
samples from the permit area are analyzed and included in Tab 6.
Rule 2.04.7(1), (3), and (4) -- Hydrology Description
Tab 7 in the S2W permit contains information regarding groundwater (Rule 2.04.7(1)).
The permit contains a discussion of the groundwater hydrology of the permit and adjacent area,
including details about the following:
1. The depth below the surface and the horizontal extent of the potentiometric surface of
any aquafer identified above, within and below the lowest coal seam to be mined.
2. Tab 7 identifies the lithology and thickness of the aquafers.
3. The groundwater discussion identifies the seasonal quantity and quality of water within
the identified aquifers.
4. The ownership, uses and locations for all existing wells, springs and other developed
groundwater sources have been identified.
5. The hydrology section contains information detailing the water quality sampling and
laboratory analysis that complies with the requirements outlined in Rule 2.03.3(4).
6. Tab 7 discusses the recharge, storage and discharge characteristics of the identified
aquifers. Also included in this discussion are the reported yields of wells within and
adjacent to the permit area which are registered with the Office of the State Engineer.
Tab 18 also contains a discussion that satisfies the requirements of Rule 2.04.7(3). The
discussion contains information regarding alternative water supply. The alternative water
supply will come from the Temple Reservoir No. 1, the Stagecoach Reservoir, 005 pond, 006
pond and Production Well No. 1. The only anticipated groundwater impact that could
require mitigation would be to the Temple Well No. 1.
a cow
{tee ti
555 Street Address, Room 555, Denver, CO 55555-5555 P 555.555.5555
} Is
