Some important numbers:
Here are the acreages and/or volumes developed by using Exhibit F-2 as a guide. These values
are not precise as each category may vary somewhat when it comes to the actual work performed, but
the values are useful for estimating what is needed.
Slope reconfigurations: 8.5 acres
Removal of current features: 0.6 acres (scale house area and asphalt piles)
Topsoiling of pit floor: 13.9 acres
(Note: some soil will also be needed for some areas in the slope reconfiguration.)
Volume of soil assuming 6" mean depth: 11,500 cubic yards
Total area requiring revegetation: 22.4 acres (pit floor+ slope reclamation)
REVEGETATION SEED MIXTURE
The following seed mix will be used in the revegetation of the site. Planting is best done in
March or April, or from mid-August to mid-September. Planting can also occur in winter if the soil if
workable. The rate of seeding assumes drill seeding which is preferred for a site like this. However,
some steeper slopes where equipment cannot safely operate may need broadcast seeding.
Vollmer Pit Updated Seed Mix -June 2018
Species lbs/ac PLS (drilled rate) * seeds/sq ft
Green Needlegrass 3 12.47
Needle and Thread 3 7.92
Canada Wildrye 2 4.87
Intermediate Wheatgrass 2 4.45
Streambank Wheatgrass 2 7.35
Alfalfa 1 4.82
13 41.87
* If seed is broadcast then multiply all amounts by 2.
Vollmer Pit Technical Revision June 2018 Updated Reclamation Plan Page 24 of 26
