EXHIBIT D MINING PLAN (CONT)
reclamation is complete the areas will be released upon the
Divisions approval .
According to the NRCS report in Exhibits I/J, there is very little
topsoil associated with the soils types found on the new area.
Much of the area is covered by a very cobbly sandy loam that
averages 6 inches deep or soils with a sandy loam and no gravel .
Grand County has a supply of soil stored in the existing mine to
resoil the southern area with 4 to 8 inches average 6 inches as
approved in the existing plan. At this time, there is a
stockpile area on the west and north sides of the mine with
adequate soil to reclaim the disturbed areas . when topsoil or
growth medium is encountered on a newly stripped area, it will be
stored on the setback areas on the north and west sides or the
mine floor for use in reclamation. If the stockpiles remain
undisturbed for more than a year the piles will be seeded with
the seed mix approved by the BLM at a rate of 20#/ac . to prevent
erosion and help preserve the soil quality. The growth medium
piles will be kept within 600 feet of the seedbed to reduce the
haul distance where it will be needed during reclamation. As
mining progresses thru the site and additional stripping is done
the material will either be stockpiled for later use or moved
directly to the areas needing resoiling.
The slopes will be created as mining progresses around the mine
perimeter according to this revised sloping plan. Currently, the
exterior sloping plan requires that the exterior slopes be graded
2 : 1 or less . The southern slope that has been graded varies from
3 : 1 to 2 : 1 so it blends with the natural slopes on the east and
south sides above the mine . The proposed sloping plan for the
new area is that, slopes of no more then 2h to lv will be left
along the east side to comply with the BLM' s requirements that
they blend with the natural slopes on the east and south side of
the mined area.
When the mine is active, the working face is worked as near
vertical as possible, with the face not exceeding 350 feet long.
When mining ends during a season the face is graded to 2 : 1 or
less so it is stable . Please see Map Exhibit C-1 for how the area may
look as mining progresses to the north.
We have not experienced any unusual dust control problems on the
site to date . One can only estimate the amount of water needed
for dust control at this time, but since there is no water on the
site we will be hauling it into the site from a source approved
for that use . Most of the water used for dust control will be
used on haul roads . In a typical year we use 3 to 5 ac-ft per
year. Please refer to ExhibitG-Water (1996) for the discussion of how
water will be used at the site.
There are no ditches crossing the site and no surface or
subsurface water will be impacted by the mining operation. All
interior pit slopes will be maintained with a pit-ward attitude
7
